The origin of the band is going back to the early 60's. Powell and Hill had just left the school when they formed the band "The Vendors". Other members were the singer Johnny Howells, the guitarist Mickey Marston and the Bassist Dave Jones. After the Beatles got more and more successful, the Vendors changed the styl and tried it with Rhythm & Blues Sound. 1964 they recorded a LP on own costs but without success. After they changed the name to "N'Betweens". Under this name they got a records contract by a french record company and worked for the french records market. End of 1965 joined Holder. To this time he still had a own band. 1966 he was a member of N'Betweens. To the same time Jones left the band and Lea joined for him and Marston most go. Holder ,Hill, Lea and Powell built the band in back of the singer Howells..Middle of 1966 they appeared  the first time without Howells. The next two years they played in London and tried to wake up the  interesst of a records company. While arround was psychedelic and Flower Power , they played strong and loud hard rock.1969 they got the records contract and the new manager Chas Chandler. He changed the name to Ambros Slade. But the success didn't come.1970 the Band changed the style and the Image to skinheads. They wanted  cause a stir. They shorted the name  to Slade, crop the heads, rolled up the trousers and wore heavy boots. But the skinheads couldn't do with Slade but the press fuss was there."Get down and get with it " was the first Hit quotation for Slade. After they changed the Image to Glitter Rock with platform shoes and glitter suits. The best time they had with "Coz I luy you" autumn 1971  'til 1975. In this time they had 13 Top 10 Hits in GB. After 1975 the  success let up but came back with the  new Top 10 Hit "We'll bring the house down" 1981.The biggest success they had in USA with "Run Run away". Then it was quiet arround the band again. End of 1991 came  the single "Radio wall of sound" in the charts and middle of 1993 "far far away" which was already a hit in GB and Germany end of 1974. 1994 appeared after a long time with "keep on Rockin" a new CD of Slade which had in back of the name a  roman II. From the native line up were still  only Hill and Powell  with it. New were the lead singer Steve Whalley and the guitartst and keyboarder Trevor Holliday.1998 two members of the swedish fanclub mixed up  the titel "Merry x-mas" new and brought it in the charts again.
